Dumpling
In Nordchina gehören Jiaozi (Teigtaschen) traditionell zum Frühlingsfest. Eine bekannte Herkunftsgeschichte geht auf den Arzt Zhang Zhongjing zurück. Er sah, wie die Menschen unter Kälte und Hunger litten, viele mit Erfrierungen an den Ohren. Um zu helfen, kochte er Lammfleisch, Chili und wärmende Kräuter, hackte sie klein und formte daraus ohrförmige Teigtaschen („Jiao’er“). Diese halfen, den Körper zu wärmen und Erfrierungen zu lindern. Daraus entwickelte sich der Brauch, zu Neujahr und zur Wintersonnenwende Jiaozi zu essen. Heute stehen sie für Wohlstand, da ihre Form an alte Goldbarren erinnert. Oft wird eine Münze oder Süßigkeit versteckt – wer sie findet, soll im neuen Jahr Glück haben. Regie. In Northern China, dumplings are a traditional must-have during the Spring Festival. A widely known story traces this custom back to Zhang Zhongjing, a renowned physician of the Eastern Han Dynasty. After returning to his hometown, he saw people suffering from hunger and cold, with many having frostbitten ears. To help them, he cooked mutton, chili, and warming herbs, chopped them, and wrapped them into ear-shaped dumplings called “Jiao’er.” Eating them warmed the body and helped heal frostbite. To commemorate this, eating dumplings during the Winter Solstice and Spring Festival became a tradition. Today, dumplings symbolize wealth and prosperity, as their shape resembles ancient Chinese gold ingots. During the New Year, families sometimes hide a coin or candy inside a dumpling—whoever finds it is believed to receive good luck in the coming year. Director.

Mahjong & Rabbit Head
Mahjong vereint Elemente der chinesischen Astronomie, Kalenderlehre sowie philosophische Ansätze aus Konfuzianismus, Daoismus, Militärstrategie und Yin-Yang-Lehre. Jeder Spielstein trägt symbolische Bedeutungen der traditionellen Kultur. Die Blumensteine (Pflaume, Orchidee, Bambus, Chrysantheme) stehen für die vier Jahreszeiten und werden als „Vier Edle“ bezeichnet. Die Zeichen „Zhong, Fa, Bai“ symbolisieren Gerechtigkeit, Wohlstand und Reinheit. Mahjong ist während des Frühlingsfests ein generationsübergreifend beliebtes Spiel. In Kombination mit dem Jahr des Hasen entstand dieses Projekt. Regie. Mahjong embodies elements of ancient Chinese astronomy, calendar systems, and philosophical thoughts from Confucianism, Taoism, military strategy, and Yin-Yang theory. Each tile carries symbolic meaning rooted in traditional Chinese culture. For example, the flower tiles (plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum) represent the four seasons and are known as the “Four Gentlemen,” symbolizing integrity and virtue. Tiles such as “Zhong, Fa, Bai” imply righteousness, prosperity, and purity. Mahjong is a popular entertainment activity across all age groups during the Spring Festival. Combined with the Year of the Rabbit, this concept inspired the project. Director.
